Temporary overnight road closures in Oakmont Borough

Tuesday, May 12, 2020 | 5:00 PM

Road closures are scheduled for this evening beginning at 6 p.m. and remaining closed overnight, which will affect two blocks in Oakmont.

Washington Avenue, between Allegheny River Boulevard and 4th Street, and 11th Street, between Maryland and Delaware avenues, will be closed to traffic except for residents who live within those blocks.

“Both blocks are included in this years’ paving program and must have a fiber mat applied to the existing road surface before paving commences Wednesday morning,” said Scot Fodi, borough manager.  “The mat prevents future reflective cracking to appear in the asphalt.  Since construction was permitted to re-start, there has been an influx of paving projects started thereby increasing the immediate demands on contractors who place the matting.  This temporary closure either happened tonight, or the road program would extend into next month simply due to these two blocks.  We would prefer to have the road program completed before the end of May,” Fodi continued.

The work will begin at 6 p.m. this evening and should be completed by 10 p.m.  The blocks will remain closed overnight due to the structure of the fiber matting.  Fewer vehicles driving over the matting is preferred.

The paving contractor, Tresco Paving Corporation, will place barricades to deter through traffic.  Paving will begin Wednesday morning at 7 a.m.
